Winter salmon fishing in Vancouver is a completely different experience than Summer fishing as we often have the best fishing spots all to ourselves and don’t have to deal with dozens of other boats around. It can be brisk at times, but on nice calm winter days we’ve had some of our best days of fishing, regardless of the time of year. Prawning and crabbing can also be much better during the winter months as competition is less fierce (commercial and recreational) and the colder water seems to produce ultra fresh seafood!
This weekend’s trip will have us fishing in the Southern Gulf Islands, including Gabriola, Valdes and Galiano. I will report back after the trip with an update and pictures of the bounty. We’ll be staying at a private cabin for the weekend and making day trips to our favourite fishing spots each day. So what’s all this talk about social media? Is it really here to stay? Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google Buzz and the list goes on… and on… and on. How am I supposed to keep up on it all?
Well, here at Exposure Travel we don’t have the answer. But, we can tell you from experience that the benefits of social media, while perhaps difficult to measure, are real and are substantial!
While there are countless social media platforms on which to spend countless hours each day, Exposure has chosen to focus most of our efforts on “The Big 3″ – at least these are “The Big 3″ for the moment. Check back next week in case things change.
Facebook – Exposure’s official Facebook fan page
Twitter – Exposure’s official Twitter account
YouTube – Exposure’s YouTube Channel with recent videos of trips
With hundreds of millions of users, each of these powerful social networking tools can be invaluable to business’s and consumer alike. If you are considering adventure travel in British Columbia any time soon you’d be amazed how easy you can find real time information on BC’s best adventure travel guides and locations. The easiest and often most effective way is to simply post in your social media account asking for advice or recommendations and wait (often only a few minutes) for eager users to disseminate their 2 cents. Of course not all of the feedback you receive will be golden but more often than not you’ll be surprised by just how many people care to share their experiences.
If you’re not yet using social media why not jump in head first now? It won’t be going away any time soon and it could very well open up some new doors for you. What have you got to lose? Besides countless hours of your time of course.
]]>The 2010 Winter Games embedded countless fresh images of Canada in minds around the world. Apart from the pure emotion and delight it brought millions, people saw the myriad different experiences this country has to offer.
Reflecting those good vibes, the newly minted campaign by the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) for the Mexico market is designed to put a spring (and quite a bit of summer, too) in Mexican travellers’ steps. Running for three months, it draws inspiration from travellers’ own shared experiences, photos and blogs to bring it to life.
It kicked off with a series of short and fun user-generated TV ads on MundoFox, Discovery Channel, Sony Entertainment Television, TNT América Latina and National Geographic Channel. These are being backed up by online and print advertising in titles including Reforma, El Universal and Excelsior (Mexico City); Mural and El Informador (Guadalajara); and El Norte (Monterrey). There will also be advertising in Mexican travel and women’s magazines.
Travel Alberta and the Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership Corporation (OTMPC) are CTC partners for the campaign.
“This campaign both reinforces our commitment to Mexican travellers and will help create sales backed by the exposure Canada received from the 2010 Winter Games,” says Siobhan Chretien, CTC executive director, Americas.
