This high-definition short movie encompasses what is at stake in British Columbia when it comes to the proposed Enbridge oil pipeline and the supertankers that would carry this oil through our coastal water. Please take 45 minutes out of your day to watch this important video and support the ban on oil tankers and the pipeline in BC.
Summer isn’t the only productive time to fish for salmon in and around Vancouver, BC. During the winter months, ‘feeder’ chinook salmon are prevalent all along the coast and we’ve had some great days in the water early in 2011. These fish are usually in the 6-15 lb range and are generally caught close to bottom while trolling with spoons, hoochies or anchovies.
Winter salmon fishing in Vancouver is a completely different experience than Summer fishing as we often have the best fishing spots all to ourselves and don’t have to deal with dozens of other boats around. It can be brisk at times, but on nice calm winter days we’ve had some of our best days of fishing, regardless of the time of year. Prawning and crabbing can also be much better during the winter months as competition is less fierce (commercial and recreational) and the colder water seems to produce ultra fresh seafood!
This weekend’s trip will have us fishing in the Southern Gulf Islands, including Gabriola, Valdes and Galiano. I will report back after the trip with an update and pictures of the bounty. We’ll be staying at a private cabin for the weekend and making day trips to our favourite fishing spots each day. It’s one of the last bastions of Canadian wilderness: the Great Bear Rainforest, on BC’s north and central Pacific coast. Home to diverse marine mammals, fish, and wildlife – from Orca and humpback whales to wild salmon, wolves, grizzlies, and the legendary spirit bear – this spectacular place is now threatened by a proposal from Enbridge to bring an oil pipeline and supertankers to this fragile and rugged coast.
Exposure Travel is dedicated to helping to keep B.C.’s pristine coastline in tact for centuries to come. If you would like to visit the Great Bear Rainforest to see first hand the environment at risk contact us to get your start planning your trip.

The climactic finish of the “Get Out Migration” for wild salmon – in Victoria, where 5,000 turned out to the the lawn of the provincial Legislature to tell governments to get open net salmon farms out of BC’s waters. Featuring powerful speeches from salmon biologist Alexandra Morton – who led the Migration down Vancouver Island – former BC Environment Minister Rafe Mair, Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, Order of Canada recipient Vicky Husband, aboriginal drums, music, colourful costumes and thousands of citizens committed to saving wild salmon…Everything the mainstream media didn’t show you about one of the largest and most powerful public demonstrations of its kind in BC history.

How can you benefit from Social Media as a traveller?
So what’s all this talk about social media? Is it really here to stay? Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google Buzz and the list goes on… and on… and on. How am I supposed to keep up on it all?
Well, here at Exposure Travel we don’t have the answer. But, we can tell you from experience that the benefits of social media, while perhaps difficult to measure, are real and are substantial!
While there are countless social media platforms on which to spend countless hours each day, Exposure has chosen to focus most of our efforts on “The Big 3″ – at least these are “The Big 3″ for the moment. Check back next week in case things change.
With hundreds of millions of users, each of these powerful social networking tools can be invaluable to business’s and consumer alike. If you are considering adventure travel in British Columbia any time soon you’d be amazed how easy you can find real time information on BC’s best adventure travel guides and locations. The easiest and often most effective way is to simply post in your social media account asking for advice or recommendations and wait (often only a few minutes) for eager users to disseminate their 2 cents. Of course not all of the feedback you receive will be golden but more often than not you’ll be surprised by just how many people care to share their experiences.
If you’re not yet using social media why not jump in head first now? It won’t be going away any time soon and it could very well open up some new doors for you. What have you got to lose? Besides countless hours of your time of course.

Why Canada is the destination for all seasons for Mexican travellers.
The 2010 Winter Games embedded countless fresh images of Canada in minds around the world. Apart from the pure emotion and delight it brought millions, people saw the myriad different experiences this country has to offer.
Reflecting those good vibes, the newly minted campaign by the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) for the Mexico market is designed to put a spring (and quite a bit of summer, too) in Mexican travellers’ steps. Running for three months, it draws inspiration from travellers’ own shared experiences, photos and blogs to bring it to life.
“This campaign both reinforces our commitment to Mexican travellers and will help create sales backed by the exposure Canada received from the 2010 Winter Games,” says Siobhan Chretien, CTC executive director, Americas.
We would like to thank you for an amazing trip. Without you we would have never found anything as beautiful and relaxing in British Columbia. It is amazing how much you can miss out in life if you don’t travel around and experience different parts of the world. — Stephanie McCabe
